DESIGN

Akiko displays an extremely cold-blooded, apathetic, emotionally reserved exterior, exhibiting very prideful and aristocratic traits similar to that of a haughty noblewoman. She is incredibly hyper-focused on her intellectual pursuits and spends a great time studying various philosophical theories and science, technology, engineering, math (OR STEM). The only thing that occupies her time more than her rigorous studies is the game duel monsters, which she has an incredibly strong fondness for. She associates with very few people outside of the student council, and even then only seems to truly enjoy spending her time with Kishi Reeds. Her Other minor personality features include a fixation on logic, cleanliness, order, consistency and efficiency. Akiko seems deeply religious, having a profound belief in faith despite what she knows about the world and an extreme interest in the concept of death and the afterlife.Regardless of her apathetic and reclusive nature, Akiko does show a fondness for those who treat her well and will generally reciprocate kindness to those who deserve it or those in need. Despite being quite cold and emotionally distant, she doesn't particularly like to push people away and still treats most others with dignity and some modicum of respect. For this reason, many people consider her a 'gentle queen' despite always speaking in a cold, emotionless or 'lifeless' way. Very few people can get her to display genuine emotion through her voice, but she is still quite expressive with her facial features and body language. Despite this, she rarely fears or dislikes (potentially) experiencing pain. In a way, Akiko seems fearless or incapable of feeling certain emotions at times; but is still reasonably expressive. When she's around people she's fond of, she shows her feelings well.Generally speaking, Akiko can also be described as being incredibly laid-back. She is not overly friendly, but has an extremely relaxed presence in most (if not all) situations. She's willing to converse with almost anyone and associate with them loosely as not to cause conflict. Even so, she keeps distance between herself and most people, but prefers to remain on good terms with the vast majority of people she knows. Like any person, however, her mood shifts in times of duress or other internal or external struggle, and will (very) often spend long stretches of time in voluntary self isolation and silence to 'recharge' herself both figuratively, and literally. She generally holds people at arms length, and doesn't let people into her inner circle.During the first act of 2050, she had her mind tampered with by Nightmare, which slowly caused her to have brief instances of snapping into a mercilessly cruel and psychopathic antagonist who saw all of humanity as "disgusting insects that needed to be exterminated." Even after her exorcism, she still exhibits some of those mildly-antagonistic traits, implying her personality has been permanently warped due to the experience, and she has no qualms in engaging in violent conflict (or even killing people) so long as it furthers her personal goals/agenda. Even so, she very rarely engages in most battles (outside of the WDF) due to her abilities, making her see most matters of (personal) 'life or death' as entirely pointless and lacking merit. Due to her generally uncaring nature, she sees many things as futile or meaningless, but not to a nihilistic degree. Post-exorcism, she believes that time, space, and the beings that dwell within it should not be tampered with due to her ability to greatly alter their development. She believes that the fate or destiny of all things shouldn't be impeded and only comes into a genuine conflict with others who can disrupt that principle or those who are a legitimate threat to herself.In the aftermath of the first act, she became slightly less reserved and was more open to showing some emotion, making her a somewhat more approachable, dependable and barely 'nicer' person overall. Much of this change was in part a direct cause of and indirectly caused by her close friendship with Kagami Yuusuke, whose life view and personality she found appealing. Even so, she never dropped some of the aforementioned personality traits due to Nightmare's influence, leaving a permanent effect or branding on his victim's psyche. Although she can no longer be classified as a true 'villain,' she still very much has another sadistic and psychotic side to her personality akin to the antagonists Yami Marik and Yami Bakura before her and is very much capable of joyously or more reservedly causing various levels of harm to those who draw her ire.While working in the World Duelling Federation (WDF), she acts more or less the same as her regular self and is described as being "an incredibly powerful and sinister undead entity, a macabre sorceress who dwells in the shadows and only steps into the light to take the souls of the living," which is not too far off from her actual self... Despite her 'official' description and being a mutant, she doesn't openly advertise herself as such; however, she's more open about her powers and her mutations than expected but generally neglects to pay any mind to her abilities. Like most mutants, she would rather regularly integrate into human society and appear the same as any regular human.

DESIGN

Akiko's relationship with humanity— or "people" is incredibly complicated. Although she is very easy to get along with professionally, her personal and romantic relationships are more complex. Akiko has very few people she genuinely considers 'friends' or 'family,' and is often aloof or uncaring of the importance or feelings others might have for her. Generally speaking, she is disgusted by most people in all manners— and appears so revolted by the idea of romantic or sexual relationships that many would assume she is on an ace spectrum. She comically finds the idea of dating people "gross" in the same manner a young boy might find the idea of girls unappealing or revolting.In reality, she prefers being alone but still has an incredibly small and immensely tight-knit group of friends, even if she doesn't always act like it. She most notably has a non-descript form of relationship with Kagami Yuusuke, for who she has a child-like adoration and fondness. At times she appears particularly invested in him and lustful— having a keen fixation and desire to ensure his well-being. She offers him to support more than anyone in her life and shows a vast amount of affection and carnal desire for physical and emotional intimacy with him.Akiko's feelings towards the prospect or idea of intimacy/romance are most similar to a kuudere or a tsundere.
